Data federation is a genuine alternative to a multi-year, budget-sapping, morale-draining data warehouse that never performs in the way that its sponsors, who are usually IT boffins miles from any coalface, predict. Warehousing might be possible, and it might be a good idea, but every single implementation I have watched has failed. Federation has always worked.
I’ve been taking a first look at StreamBase, or TIBCO Spotfire Data Streams. The first thing to note is that a free download is available direct from TIBCO, which is a fully functional Eclipse-based development environment. The second thing to note is that, perhaps surprisingly, you do not need Spotfire to use it.
For a few recent releases, since 10.7, TIBCO have been concentrating on the use of Python in Spotfire Data Functions. We continue our series that celebrates the launch of Spotfire 10.10 LTS with a look at this important feature.
